In this article we are going to list some basic SEO tips.

Mainly about Titles and tags applying these basic elements to your webpage will go a long way in getting your site up the search engine rankings.

Tags and titles on any page are very important and are used by search engines with the content to rate the page.

Titles

This area is  obviously very important and should describe the page accurately.  So using say 'SEO tips and tricks' is better than 'JC's seo stuff'. It should then be wrapped inside a H1 tag in the HTML.
Google will see this and use the content underneath in its search rankings.

If there any sub headings use H2 and H3 as needed.

The H1 and H2 and so on are HTML tags will usually be the largest text that stands out. Of course you can use CSS to change the look and size of the text but search engines will see this tag as the title.

Content

With Google no longer looking at keywords in the meta tags you may use in your header of the page it is important to write content that includes these key words. However a word of warning, stuffing any article with any old keyword will not work.
You should write the article for the  person reading it not the search engine. This way of thinking will work much better.

Meta tags

These are descriptions about the page that the viewer would not normally see. They sit within the <header>.....</header> tags

Keywords - I did say that Google do not use these any more because of abuse but others may and it is still good practice to include these. Just make sure that they are for the page only and mirror the keywords in your content. I suggest less than a dozen is a good limit.

Description - Use a description of the page  about 150 to 160 characters. The description tag won’t always show up in the results for a Google search, Google frequently picks a snippet of text from the page itself.

Title - two tags here but the title tag is the one that the user will see at the top of the browser

Robots - This tells the search engine what to do with the page, in this case index and follow the page and links

  • index/noindex - This tells the search engines whether to show your page in search results or not.
  • follow/nofollow - This tells the them what to do with links on your pages: if they should follow" your links to the next page or not.

<meta name="description" content="Northamptonshire’s leading mobile carpet and vinyl mobile showroom, also offering our service for Daventry, Wellingborough, Bedford, Kettering and Milton Keynes"

Tags - again!

This can be a useful feature that each article will have a tag that describes the page and similar ones. You can see it on this site in our tag cloud. This is a feature offered by the CMS such as Joomla rather than actual markup code.

There other tags for the actual content that is used to describe the content within the body of the article itself. Microdata

<div itemprop="articleBody">

<p>&nbsp;<span itemscope="itemscope" itemtype="http://schema.org/Article"><span itemprop="articleBody"><strong>We</strong> are Northamptonshire’s leading mobile carpet and vinyl&nbsp;showroom. Established in 1993. We&nbsp;are a family run business with&nbsp;experience spanning 3 decades. With a vast knowledge of carpets, vinyl’s, laminates and LVT’s.</span></span></p>

<p><span id="__mce_tmp">We cover the whole of Northamptonshire includi.....

These tags are very varied and they can describe in detail what that snippet of txt means.
The list is quite long so I refer you to the site that provides more details http://schema.org/docs/gs.html

So there we have it a very brief run down of some useful tips for your web pages.
